Happy New Year!

My blog has been very bare lately due to me being off sick but I just wanted to have a quick post thanking everyone who has supported Three29Design this year. So… THANK YOU! =] I appreciate the people I’ve worked with, having faith in me that I can pull off their projects just how they want them. I appreciate those who I’ve networked with, and who give me feedback and more confidence in myself and my work. I’m thankful that people recommend me to there friends, family, co-workers etc it means a lot!

2010 saw 329’s first birthday in September. It’s been a successful first year of business and I hope 2011 will only make things even more successful. I expanded slightly this year by getting a coder on board so the stuff you don’t see is quality as well, along with learning new programs and venturing into some illustration. More of that will happen throughout this year, and I can’t wait to get back to work fully after being away for so long due to being in hospital.

I wish you all good health, and success with your talent in 2011 – whether it be art, music, geeky computer stuff, being entrepreneurial and so on…

Work featured in Burst Magazine

Burst Magazine

Thought I’d let you know that a few pieces of my work were featured in the Pilot issue of Burst Magazine. It’s a new digital magazine to help up and coming creatives gain some exposure. I was featured alongside 14 other extremely talented designers, photographers and illustrators, so it’s an honor to share some space with them.

You can download your copy or have a look at the site here. You can also follow @BurstMagazine on twitter.

329’s Birthday :)

1st birthday

Today, September 4th, is three29’s birthday! I’ve been in business for one who year and learned a hell of a lot in this first year…

I have not studied graphic design or business when I was in college as I started using Photoshop when I was in my 2nd year of college. I studied film studies, product design (wood work) and psychology – but I do have a independent study ‘Graphic design and working with clients’ which I received an A in. And no, I’m not a Uni person. So it’s all very new to me and a learn as I go along. I’ve learned how to deal with clients, filling out my first self assessment, money management, time management, new programs and so on.

In this first year of business I have done a lot of interesting projects which have pushed me further, and it’s the projects that have you biting your nails at the start which usually come out best. I’ve also met a lot of awesome people, whether they’re clients or designers/illustrators. There’s a few things I need to start doing differently though. Like allowing more time for personal projects, so I can try out new things and learn. As many clients don’t really like something knew appearing on there project. Also… a bit more time off to avoid burn out!

All in all it’s been a great year. I’m so glad I didn’t go to uni and chose to try something completely new out. I hope it continues to go as well :) Would like to say a big thank you to everyone I have worked with and everyone whose ever given me feedback so I can improve! You are appreciated.

Pixels Wrapped In Neon // The Style

You may have noticed that I’m doing the often neon, offset outlines (often with splashes of extra light or small tags on them to spruce them up) on my work more and more these days. I feel like it’s a style I can run with an develop as I go along, especially as I’m getting noticed for it more and more and people hire me with that style in mind. I also like it because it’s one of those things you love or hate, if you don’t love it or hate it straight away you’ll most likely grow to. After all if everyone liked it then it would be boring, wouldn’t it?

I used to be really weary about working with glows and light in general, but I slowly warmed up to it. I don’t know what it is that I like about it so much that I try to include some sort of variation of the wrapped in neon style in the majority of my new works, sort of like a signature style I guess.

If you like the style maybe you’re wondering how it all started?

Well… once upon a time I was in a really random mood. I picked out a distinctive picture of The Game and said to myself ‘I’m going to try out something new and different to what I usually do. I need a change’. So my brain splattered something on photoshop which looked like this piece below - ‘Torn Between Two Colors’
